Summer 2009 is going to be the season of big, bold and beautiful jewellery. Ranging from wild and wonderful, to wacky, every trend you can possibly think of will be doing the rounds this summer; the more outrageous the better. Statement pieces have been used so much by designers in their Summer shows recently and there is no sign of it going away anytime soon.
Big, bold jewellery can often be off putting, as you just don’t know what looks right and what is too much, but, don’t be dissuaded from this trend as it can work for anyone. The main themes which seem to crop up with designers are geometric prints, Exotic and ethnic inspired jewellery and bright colours and stunning gemstones. The art deco look has been embraced by a lot of designers who use brightly coloured geometric shapes to achieve the look. Asian beading and tropically inspired jewellery is perfect for summer and has featured heavily on the catwalk of late.
Large bracelets and cuffs will also be pretty big for the summer season. Whether it be chunky bangles or simple chains bracelets, no arm should be without jewellery this summer. The good thing about this trend is that it allows you to down play the clothes and keep them simple, injecting colour and personality with the accessories, so, even if you don’t have a big clothing budget, you can reinvent your wardrobe with a few key pieces of statement jewellery.
